Bank teller thwarts robbery attempt by simply saying 'no'

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A would-be bank robber was thwarted when the teller at a downtown bank refused to hand over cash after receiving a demand note, police said Wednesday.

The suspect, a roughly 50-year-old man, attempted to pull off the heist just before 5 p.m. Tuesday at the U.S. Bank branch at 600 W. Broadway, San Diego police officer John Buttle said. He walked into the branch and handed over a note demanding money.

"The clerk took the note, looked at the suspect and said `no,''' Buttle said. "The suspect turned and walked out the door without obtaining anything.''

Robbery detectives were investigating the incident.
