St. Augustine Sophomore Angelo Peraza made the most of his first Varsity start at Quarterback by completing 13-18 pass attempts for 212 yards, 4 touchdowns and leading the Saints past the Point Loma Pointers 53-34. Peraza was helped by RB Deandre Daniels who carried the ball 12 times and amassed 186 yards with 3 TD’s of his own. Daniels scored on runs of 54, 8 and 65 yards respectively.
Point Loma kept the game close for 3 quarters. Pointers QB Kevin Grady went 18-30 for 264 yards and 2 TD’s. But it was Peraza who threw 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter that would seal the win for the Saints.
St. Augustine now stands at 3-3 and 1-0 in league play with the pivotal win against Point Loma. The Saints will go on the road in their next game against Western League rival, Madison while Point Loma plays host to Mira Mesa. Be sure to tune into Prep Pigskin Report for highlights of these games.
Preview: The St. Augustine Saints (2-3) and Point Loma Pointers (3-2) play in the very tough Western League. A League that includes the undefeated Madison Warhawks (5-0), the surprising Mira Mesa Marauders (4-1) and the injury riddled Cathedral Catholic Dons (2-3). As League play starts this Friday, both the Saints and Pointers get a chance at a League Title as all teams are 0-0 in the league play.
The Saints are consistently one of the better teams in the County year after year. This year has been a bit of a struggle as the Saints have not been able to get consistent play. The Saints are coming off a 35-7 loss to Helix. They are led on offense by QB Ryan Thomas, RB DeAndre Daniels and this weeks Mic’d up Athlete, WR JR Justice.
After losing the first 2 games of the season, Point Loma is riding a 3 game win streak. A streak that has the Pointers outscoring their opponents 124-62. The Pointers only field about 35-40 kids, so a lot of them have to play both offense and defense for their team. If you can’t make it out to Mesa College to watch this game, be sure to catch the highlights on the Prep Pigskin Report.
