Posted: Updated:

Mater Dei proved they could crusade through Week 8 with another win. This is their second win in a row after the 21-0 victory over the Bonita Vista Barons. This sets the Crusaders at a 4-3 record and the Barons at a 0-8 for the season.

First quarter was scoreless; the second quarter Evan Besker intercepted a ball for a 26-yard touchdown that gave the Crusader a 7-0 lead with 6:28 remaining in the quarter. With the intent to run out the clock Mater Dei slowed down the play only to have Christian Paquian Macias carry the ball 75 yards to the Barron 14 yard line. With less than 10 seconds left to end the second half Cameron Smith connected with Shaun Jones for a 5-yard touchdown catch. Mater Dei extended their lead 14-0 at the end of the first half.

With 9 minutes to go in the third quarter Cameron Smith scored the third and final touchdown of the night sealing the win for the Crusaders. Final score 21-0 Mater Dei.

Several Crusaders had a notable night. Christian Paquian Macias had a phenomenal rushing game; every quarter he created scoring opportunities for the team. Shaun Jones showed his talent on the offense and defense having scored a touchdown and catching two interceptions. Cameron Smith and Evan Besker contributed on the scoreboard adding a touchdown each.

With 5 picks in the game the Crusaders were able to anticipate the ball early showing the capability of the Mater Dei defense. The defense will need to keep up the critical eye for next week’s match up against Eastlake. The Barons move forward and will face Olympian in search for their first win of the season.

PREVIEW: Welcome back to another fantastic week of high school football! Week 8 it is! After last week’s victory 35-7 victory over Castle Park, Mater Dei seeks to continue their winning streak. The Crusaders who currently hold a 3-3 record will be hosting the Bonita Vista Barons. The Barons had a tough 54-7 loss to Olympian last week.

Mater Dei will look to continue with the top of the line performances by Quarterback Cameron Smith, wide receiver Shaun Jones, running back and running back Christian Paquian Macias. Smith and Jones had chemistry on the field that lead to success. A chemical bond on an opening play that would lead them to the 3-yard line that created a path for Paquian to run one in for a touchdown. Between these three the recipe for success can only equal greatness.

The Flores boys have shown to be duo, unrelated to one another, on the field they leave an impact! Jayden Flores showed that he could create plays and score on them too. Ryan proved to be an offensive and defensive player by being able to recover punts and fumbles that lead to touchdowns. Overall the Crusaders have the tactics, talents, and teamwork to get to keep the winning streak strong.

Bonita Vista has had a rough start this season, however that will not bring them down for they have their first win in sight. The Barons have a 0-7 record this 2017 football season, change can happen at anytime. Last game Kevin Kozar threw a beautiful 60-yard pass to Davon Linear that put up 7 points on the scoreboard for the team. These two will need to keep the touchdown connections flowing in order to create results this Friday night.
