The Montgomery Aztecs got past the Francis Parker Lancers 43-19 in the Week 8 matchup.
The final score did not reflect the game at all. At halftime, the score was 14-13 Montgomery only held a 1 point lead.
The star of the game was Hunter Joseph; he started the scoring for the Aztecs and finished it. In the Aztecs’ second drive of the game Joseph ran the ball in from 36 yards out and the touchdown.
The Lancers came right back with a touchdown of their own when Ryan Sanborn found John Gordon for the 7 yard touchdown pass.
The Lancers took the lead right after when Seamus Gallagher blocked a kick that was recovered by Russell Childs in the end zone; it was 13-7 Lancers.
Hunter Joseph didn’t like trailing so he ran in for his second touchdown of the game 14-13 Aztecs.
Coming out of the locker rooms the Aztecs drove down and scored a 22 yard touchdown; it was Hunter Joseph.
The Aztecs sealed the game with two pick sixes. First was Raheim Williams who picked off the Lancers and returned it for the 40 yard touchdown. Then who else but Hunter Joseph took an interception 75 yards for the touchdown.
Hunter Joseph owned the night with 175 rush yards, 3 rushing touchdowns, 20 passing yards, and a 75 yard pick six.
The Aztecs move to 4-3 and the Lancers drop to 2-5.
Preview: The Week 8 matchup between the Francis Parker Lancers and the Montgomery Aztecs features two teams that haven’t played each other in over a decade.
Both teams are coming in off wins and look to extend their respective streaks.
For the Aztecs (3-3), it has been an up and down season all year long. There have been sparks of brilliance mixed with tough obstacles.
Montgomery is a run-first offense in fact they have attempted 15 pass plays in six games. It has been a heavy run load led by Hunter Joseph. Joseph has dominated for the Aztecs. Joseph has rushed for 662 yards with 6 touchdowns. That includes a 281-yard performance against Army-Navy.
On the defensive side of the ball, it has been David Vargas and Victor Ayala leading the way with 24 tackles each.
They will try and use a power run game to push them past the Lancers.
For Francis Parker (2-4), Ryan Sanborn has lead their offense with 491 passing yards and 387 rushing yards. Sanborn has found the end zone 7 times on his feet this season. Trevor Brokowski has added 171 yards rushing.
Jonathan Gordon has been a standout receiver for the Lancers this season. Gordon has caught the ball 16 times for 220 receiving yards.
On defense, Peter Bowden has been a force to be reckoned with accounting for 5 sacks this season. Sam Camposeco has also lead the defense with his 66 total tackles on the season so far.
It is a contest featuring two teams who have had struggles but look to continue to improve. Montgomery is one win away from their best record since 2013. Francis Parker is 1-0 in league and look to get better in non-league matchups.
