The Norsemen put up a good fight, but Grossmont swoops in and seals the win. This week, the Grossmont Foothillers visited the Valhalla Norsemen. The game began quite slow as both teams kept going back and forth, however both teams did perform well defensively.
Shortly after the second quarter began, quarterback Jamie Odom of the Foothillers rushed a 7 yard touchdown. Valhalla then bounced back and Norsemen quarterback Bryan Madriz threw a 9 yard touchdown pass. However Foothillers running back Shevell Sterling Jr. rushed for a 9 yard touchdown. The first half closed with an impressive sack by Valhalla’s defense leaving the final score of the first half at 14-6 in Grossmont’s favor.
The second half began with Grossmont scoring with Jamie Odom throwing a 49 yard touchdown pass to Thomas Mangum. The Norsemen then bounced back yet again when Madriz threw a 9 yard touchdown pass to Cole Howard. After a long dispute between the refs and members on the Grossmont sidelines, Cole Howard would eventually shine again when he blocked a Grossmont punt and return the ball for a touchdown. Valhalla then scored a two-point conversion leaving a close score of 21-20. However, Grossmont fought back and Shevell Sterling Jr. rushed for a 62 yard touchdown. When the Foothillers regained possession, Jamie Odom rushed for a 1 yard touchdown, followed by another touchdown by Sterling Jr. leaving the score at 40-20. The final score of this match would end up being 54-26 in the Foothillers’ favor.
