Point Loma Pointers 35, Mira Mesa Marauders 6

Posted: Updated:

REVIEW: After a very unlucky and interesting Friday the 13th Homecoming at Point Loma, the Mira Mesa Marauders claimed the unfortunate stigma that today holds by losing to the Pointers (35-6). The Marauders gained their second loss of the season (5-2), as the Pointers improve theirs to (4-3).

Following an uneventful first quarter, Pointers Bryan Yepez starts out the night by punching in a 4 yard TD run, (7-0) Point Loma. Just a few minutes later, Malik Moore makes a 16 yard completion from QB Kyle Grady, setting up Josh Ball for his first of many TDs of the night.

At the end of the halftime show, Point Loma reveals their Homecoming king and queen, Kyle Johnson and Avin Niknafs. Nevertheless, the Pointers are just getting started. At the start of the third quarter, Josh Ball fights his way into the end zone from the one yard line, (21-0) Pointers.

Once the Marauders had 21 points against them, they said enough was enough. Wide receiver Artyom Harr completes an incredible one handed 74 yard TD catch from Noah Tumblin. Mira Mesa finds their spot on the board, as the Pointers still lead (21-6).

As the fourth quarter rolls around, JL Skinner intercepts the ball bringing it to the two yard line where workhorse Josh Ball scores for his third TD of the night. Special thoughts go out to the Marauders defensive linemen Larrenzzo Amos, as he is taken off the field in an ambulance with seven minutes left within the game.

PREVIEW:It is Homecoming night this Friday for the (3-3) Point Loma Pointers, as they take on the near undefeated (5-1) Mira Mesa Marauders. This week-eight game happens to land on the very unlucky Friday the 13th, so it will be interesting to see who obtains the unlucky stigma of this infamous date.

The Pointers are ranked within the top 150 teams of California with a surprising (3-3) record. However, with their ability to score an average of 30 points per game, they will without a doubt be coming into this Friday’s contest ready to put points up on the board. Point Loma’s senior QB Kyle Grady has passed for an impressive 664 yards thus far and only plans to heighten this statistic. On the receiving end, JL Skinner has obtained 217 of these yards with a total of two TDs. Pointers running backs Josh Ball and Kyle Grady have a combined 629 rushing yards with a total of seven TDs. Therefore, we can expect these two workhorses to run for at least 78 yards this Friday.

With a (5-1) record, the Mira Mesa Marauders are ranked 254th in California and plan to come into Fridays game with the mentality of gaining their sixth win of the season. Averaging 34 points a game, the Marauders have a few players to look out for, namely, QB Noah Tumblin, RB Elijah Thomas, and WR Artyom Harr. Tumblin has passed for nearly 700 yards and rushed for 476 with a staggering total of 1170 yards. Sophomore Elijah Thomas has racked together a total of 235 rushing yards with 72 carries. On the receiving end, Artyom Harr has 29 receptions with a total of 552 yards. With high passing, receiving and rushing yards under these three’s belt, you will want to keep your eye on their every move.

Placing the Pointers and Marauders records aside, both candidates have the capability of putting up at least 30 points a game, revealing that Friday’s Homecoming game will most likely result in one vital touchdown.
