Game of the Week: San Diego Cavers 34, Kearny Komets 7

Posted: Updated:

The San Diego Cavers remain undefeated (7-0) after taking down the Kearny Komets (6-1) 34-7 in the Game of the Week.

Starting off to a quick start the Komets score their first touchdown an 11-yard touchdown pass to Kam Castellani-Ray within the first 2 minutes of the game! Not so shortly after the Cavers answer back with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Thomas, which would be the first of 5 touchdowns for San Diego. The Komets are moving down the field when QB Kenyon Williams throws an interception to Jayden Wickware who takes off running the ball 45 yards. Cousin of Wickware Thomas Marcus, recent University of Arizona commit, takes the QB keeper into the end zone before the end of the 1st quarter.

Coming back from the half Thomas Marcus catches an interception that looked as if it were being thrown directly to him. Raiden Hunter kicked it into high gear scoring two touchdowns and one of which was a 77-yard run! But one of the biggest plays of the game comes from Thomas Marcus, a pass that looked to be an easy touchdown for the Komets was interrupted when Marcus chased down Kam Castellani-Ray to the 3-yard line, stripping the ball and picking it up in the end zone for 30 yards. Wickware ended the game with an 80-yard interception run and the Cavers took another win for the season.

The Cavers will take on Patrick Henry next week, to find out if they remain undefeated after week 9 tune into the Prep Pigskin Report, Friday night at 10:30!

Preview: Friday night at Kearny High School there will be a Central League showdown for first place as the Komets (6-0) host the San Diego Cavers (6-0).

Komets junior QB Kenyon Williams makes up for a low completion percentage (48.7%) by hitting on some long passes for 12 TD’s on the season against 3 INT’s. Senior RB Brenton Bell does the brunt of the work on the ground. He has already passed the 1,000-yard mark (1,192 yards) and has already scored 14 TD’s.

Cavers junior QB Quinn O’Connor has thrown for 13 TD’s with just 1 INT. He, too, has completed less than 50% of his passes but has hit on several big plays giving San Diego the chance for the quick strike. Their running game uses a two-headed monster of a pair of junior RB’s; Raiden Hunter (493 yards 8 TD) and Jayden Wickware (365 yards 5 TD).

The Komets and the Cavers are a pair of young teams that are looking to take control of the Central League while starting the season 7-0 with a realistic chance to run the table heading into the postseason.
