Ramona 41, Mount Carmel 3

Posted: Updated:

Another week, another impressive victory for the Ramona Bulldogs. The Bulldogs defeated the Mt. Carmel Sundevils by a final score of 41-3 and have now pushed their win streak to an astounding seven games in a row. In the first quarter both teams traded possessions and seemed to be getting a feel for one another. After one quarter of play the scoreboard read 7-3 in favor of the Bulldogs, and that’s about as close as the game would get.

As soon as the second quarter began, Ramona showed why its football team is undefeated this season. An immediate score would set the pace for pretty much the rest of the game, as it was all Bulldogs from that point forward. Ramona’s squad looked like a well-oiled machine and were finding success in every possible way. The Bulldogs had at least one touchdown on offense, defense and special teams. It seemed as though the Bulldogs could do no wrong. They were forcing turnovers, they were turning turnovers into points, they were blocking punts, even when the Bulldogs decided to run a fake punt they converted and kept their drive going. Ramona’s Bulldogs were firing on all cylinders and the distance they were able to create ultimately proved too much for the Mount Carmel Sundevils to overcome.

For the Mount Carmel Sundevils it was a night where their opponent turned in a near perfect performance. Also consider the caliber of opponent they were facing and it’s not hard to imagine why they struggled the way they did. The Sundevils were holding their own in the first quarter, unfortunately there were three quarters left to play and the Bulldogs found a groove that proved to be unbreakable.

The quest to remain perfect continues for the Bulldogs, as they will look to secure their eighth win in a row against the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns. The Mount Carmel Sundevils will be looking to bounce back in Week 9 when they host the Del Norte Nighthawks. Both games are scheduled to take place Friday, Oct 20 at 7:00 PM.

PREVIEW: Friday’s game between the Ramona Bulldogs and the Mount Carmel Sundevils will give both teams the opportunity to accomplish a great feat. For the Ramona Bulldogs, it will be the opportunity to pick up their seventh win in a row and remain perfect for the season. The Mount Carmel Sundevils will have the opportunity to hand the Ramona Bulldogs their first loss of the season and pick up a much-needed win.

In order to beat the unbeaten, Mount Carmel will need a good performance on both sides of the ball. On defense, the Sundevils must keep the ball away from a Bulldogs offense that has scored over twenty points in each of their games. It is hard to imagine the Bulldogs struggling on offense, but if the Sundevils can get to quarterback Casey Buggeln they can make things interesting. Unfortunately for Mount Carmel, Buggeln has done an excellent job of protecting the ball this season, so they will really have to work in order to force some mistakes. If the Mount Carmel defense struggles to contain the Bulldogs then they will likely need a boost from the offense in order to stay in the game. The Sundevils can look to their performance against the Mira Mesa Marauders as the blueprint for success. Although the Sundevils lost that contest, they were able to remain competitive throughout the entire game and ultimately just came up short.

For the Ramona Bulldogs, one would have to believe they will keep playing with the same plan and mentality that has gotten them this far. A balanced offensive attack combined with a defense that has held all opponents to under twenty points, has resulted in six consecutive wins with the prospect of making it seven consecutive. The Bulldogs have a formula that is clearly working and as the saying goes “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.

Kick-off takes place 7:00 P.M. Friday at Mount Carmel High School.
