Preview: Scripps Ranch Falcons vs. Morse Tigers - KUSI News - San Diego, CA

Morse Tigers 48 , Scripps Ranch 13

Posted: Updated:

On this chilly Friday night, Morse was finishing up the Homecoming season for San Diego high schools with one for their own. Morse ASB was crowning homecoming winners, but there was another crown to be worn tonight for winner of this Eastern League conference game between the Morse Tigers and Scripps Ranch Falcons.

Starting off the first quarter, new University of Arizona commit, PPR Student-Athlete spotlight, and Morse super star Martell Irby with the quarterback keeper goes for 33-yard touchdown. Tigers would go in for a 2 point conversion, which would be good. Morse takes the lead 8-0.

Going into the second quarter, Morse's AJ Vilaysane keeps it short and sweet with a 3 yard touchdown. Tigers would go for another 2 point conversion and it's good. Morse 16-0. This would also be the halftime score.

After homecoming festivities take over the halftime, Scripps Ranch rethinks how their offense can pick up points. They would go on to score a 1-yard touchdown. PAT is no good. Scripps Ranch would get on the board again, with quarterback Daniel Cox taking a quarterback keeper for 4 yard touchdown. PAT is good. Scripps Ranch trails 29-13.

Scripps Ranch tried to fight back, but Morse was not letting this win slip from their hands. Their offense would continue to dominate the rest of the game. Before the end of the fourth quarter, Morse's Anthony Gonzalez connects to Tim Patrick for an impressive 69-yard touchdown catch.

Morse would go on to win 48-13 and take their first Eastern league conference win.

Next week will include more Eastern League conference match-ups. Morse will take on Mission Bay and Scripps Ranch will battle against Christian.

PREVIEW

Just like that we are getting closer to the finish line of regular season football in San Diego heading into week 9. Games are getting longer, homecoming winners are being crowned, nights are getting colder, and PPR is on the watch for narrowing down Silver Pigskin finalists. One featured game this week will be the Scripps Ranch Falcons traveling down Interstate 15 to play fellow Eastern league conference competitors, Morse Tigers.

Falcons have had a very tough road this season, with only winning one game and having  a 1-6 record. Tigers have had a steady season with some ups and downs, currently holding a record of 3-4.

Both teams have started their conference game standings with one loss.

Last time the team played each other was last season, where Morse took a victory of 39-21 from Scripps Ranch at one of the Falcon’s home games.

Friday’s game will be a matter of the Falcon’s offense continuing to click and Morse’s insane rushing yard power and strong defense.

Scripps Ranch may have an advantage in number. With a roster total of 50, compared to Morse's 18, Scripps Ranch may an army, but head coach Marlon Gardinera says that numbers don't matter and that the teamwork on Friday nights are what matter. The Falcons may be having a tough season, but senior Daniel Cox and Junior Sean Fields have faith they can turn this season around.

Morse's superior seniors, quarterback Tim Patrick and running back Martell Irby, have each others backs, which has allowed for insane rushing yards and multiple touchdowns. With this much talent, it's no wonder Martel Irby committed to play ball at the University of Arizona. With 1700 yards alone last season, Irby will join a team who will help match his strengths.
