REVIEW:

The high school football season is coming to an end as we finish up week nine with the La Jolla Vikings relentlessly thrashing the Serra Conquistadors, (56-26). Even though majority of the points were scored within the first half, the Vikings had no intention of slowing down throughout the remainder of the game.

With a number of points scored from both sides in the first half, the second half is flooded with 3 turnovers, as well as three touchdown passes from La Jolla’s Trevor Scully. To start off the second half of the contest, Scully throws for a 38 yard touchdown placing the Vikings at (42-13). Once Serra finally had a chance with the ball, La Jolla’s Greg Nelson interrupts this opportunity with an interception, then later a fumble recovery on a later drive.

Even though Serra was trailing just under 30 points, Myles Bryant decides to shorten the gap by rushing for eleven yards, only to be stopped at the one yard line by a brutal face mask. The next play, Bryant punches in the one yarder making the score just a tad closer, but not for long.

For the remainder of the game Trevor Scully throws for his final two touchdown passes of the night, totaling in at three touchdown passes with a staggering 184 yards.

PREVIEW: As we begin to get closer towards the end of the high school football season, some teams have surprised, where others have disappointed. Entering this week—nine conference game, the Serra Conquistadors (2-5) host to the La Jolla Vikings (3-4) as the fight for a competing record continues.

The Serra Conquistadors appeared to start off their season fairly strong, scoring 95 points in just their first two games. However, their next five games leading up to this week resulted in a shocking five game loosing streak, where a combination of only 61 points were scored. Needless to say, the Conquistadors are due for another win, especially being at home this week.

Unlike Serra, the La Jolla Vikings are coming into this week with a previous two game win streak against Hoover and Patrick Henry. Within the four losses acquired the Vikings pulled together an average of 17 points, and in their three wins, an average of 34 points. These prior wins will hopefully give the Vikings the confidence they need to continue their win streak.

The Conquistadors have combined a total of 173 rushing and receiving yards with an average of 22 points per game, whereas, the Vikings have collected a total of 158 rushing and receiving yards with an average of 24 points per game. Ultimately, Serra gains more yards per game; however, La Jolla comes out on top with the capability to put up more points.
