Mount Miguel celebrated their homecoming tonight, but the Granite Hills Eagles were the ones celebrating after the game. The Eagles payed a visit to the Matadors this week, and they brought it.
The game began with both teams going back and forth which meant great performances from both teams defensively. The Eagles were the first to score with a field goal kicked by Justin McElligott. It wasn’t until the second quarter when the Eagles would score a touchdown. Quarterback Jacob Siegfried rushed the ball for five yards and would score leaving the score at 10-0. When the Matadors gained possession, Ethen Bishop of the Eagles intercepted a pass which lead to Siegfried throwing a 22 yard touchdown pass to David Tyler Gonzalez. Shortly after Mount Miguel found their way to the scoreboard due to a 3 yard touchdown run from Shemar Greene changing the score to 17-7.
During halftime, Santino Pacheco of the Matadors football team was crowned homecoming king and Jennifer Landa as homecoming queen.At the start of the second half, David Tyler Gonzalez found his way to the end zone once more with an 8 yard touchdown run. Granite Hills came out of this game with a win and a final score of 31-13.
As week 9 approaches, that means the regular season is almost over and this week the Red Jackets will be at Mount Miguel High School to watch the Granite Hills Eagles take on the Mount Miguel Matadors..
The Matadors are currently 3-5 overall and 1-1 in league games. Last week they achieved an impressive win against El Cajon Valley with a final score of 58-9. Quarterback, Mugabee Miller has achieved up to 1,211 passing yards overall this season so far. On the defensive side, Santino Pacheco of the Matadors has achieved 35 solo tackles.
As for the Eagles, their season hasn’t been too bad. Last week they received a win against Hilltop with a final score of 34-20. Granite Hills is currently 5-2 overall and 1-0 in league games. Quarterback Jacob Siegfried has achieved 595 passing yards and 675 rushing yards.
The Eagles are currently ranked 7th in Division 2 and the Monarchs are ranked 9th in Division 3.
