In a pivotal avocado league matchup the Torrey Pines Falcons traveled north west to face off verse the Carlsbad Lancers. The Lancers would start the game off fast with quarterback Troy Bloomquist throwing a quick screen to Joe Fontenot who put on a move and goes 71 yards for the Carlsbad score 7-0. Torrey Pines would get the ball and move the ball down the field and would get a long field goal to chip away at the lead 7-3. Carlsbad would get tricky with a half back pass from Noah Mills to Cole Wright for 30 yards to pad the lead to 14-3. The Falcons would come alive in the second quarter with quarterback Jason Heine would take it from 6 yards out to make the game 14-10. After a three and out from Carlsbad, Falcons took over and Marc Bingham would score from 7 yards out to give the Torrey Pines the lead 17-14. Falcons would score on a big pass play before half time to pad the lead to 24-14 with them reviving the ball after half.
The third quarter would kick off the same way the second one ended with the Falcons going in to score with Marc Bingham scoring again this time from 6 yards out to give Torrey Pines a 31-14 lead. Carlsbad would add a touchdown late with Bloomquist connecting with Luke Armstrong from 7 yards out to cut the lead to 31-24 but it would’t be enough as that would be the final.
The Torrey Pines defense stepped up huge in this game with 4 sacks and a blocked punt. The Falcons ruined a special night for the Lancers with Carlsbad naming the field after long time coach Bob McAllister with a pre game ceremony. To add to the festivities it was homecoming as well so a full crowd in the stands who were also there for the post game fireworks.
Torrey Pines now (6-2) will have a home game verse the (8-0) Mission Hills Grizzlies meanwhile (4-4) Carlsbad will travel to (4-4) El Camino. For those highlights and many more be sure to tune in to the Prep Pigskin Report nest Friday night at 1030 pm only on KUSI.
PREVIEW:The red jackets roll in to week 9 with a pivotal league matchup as the (5-2)Torrey Pines Falcons face the (4-3) Carlsbad Lancers. The Falcons are riding a 3 game winning streak after I knocking off the Oceanside Pirates 30-0. The Falcons gave up size to the Pirates but were able to move the ball effectively junior running back Marc Bingham ran shipwreck with 12 carries for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns, senior Sully O’Brien tried to match his fellow teammate with 128 yards and 1 touchdown. The ground attack for Torrey Pines has been key for they’re success amassing over 2000 yards on the season so far since losing week 1 the Falcons have scored at least 30 points or more.
The Lancers will be in must win mode as they sit 1-3 in league play and coming off a tough loss to the San Marcos Knights 38-12. Carlsbad has lost three of its last four games. The Lancers are lead by senior quarterback Troy Bloomquist who has 1328 yards and 15 touchdowns on season so far his fellow senior teammate Joe Fontenot seems to benefit the lost from his opportunities as he leads the team in catches (24), yards (494) and touchdowns (4). On the ground Joel Lazaro carries the load for Carlsbad with over 400 yards on the season helps balance out the Lancer offense.
Torrey Pines got the win last year 21-14 so you know revenge will be on Carlsbads mind. With both teams looking to move up in avocado league play and chase the Mission Hills Grizzlies, this game becomes a must win for each team.
