Monte Vista Monarchs 50, El Cajon Valley Braves 0

Posted: Updated:

The Monarchs of Monte Vista came into El Cajon Valley High on Senior night and conquered the Braves by a score of 50-0.  Monte Vista proved to be too much for the Braves on both sides of the ball.  On offense, it was the Elshaddai Levi and Jahmon McClendon show.  The Monarch running backs combined for five rushing touchdowns and a two point conversion. McClendon punished would be tacklers from El Cajon Valley often carrying two of them on his back for extra yards. The Braves defense just couldn't find an answer to the two headed monster. On defense, the Monarchs were just as dominant. The line was constantly in the backfield causing problems and forcing turnovers including an interception return for a touchdown. The Braves offense had almost as many first downs (3) as turnovers (4). The win improves the Monarchs record to 3-1 in the conference and 5-3 overall. Next week they will travel to Granite Hills in a battle for first place.  The loss drops the Braves record to 0-2 in the conference and 2-6 overall. Next week they will try to right the ship when they travel to Santana to take on the Sultans.

PREVIEW: It is Week 9 of the season and my travels this week take me to El Cajon Valley where the Braves play host to the Monte Vista Monarchs. The Monarchs (4-3,2-1) are riding a two game winning streak coming into this match after beating the Santana Sultans last week 24-17. Jahmon McClendon had two touchdowns in that game and the Monarch defense came up big with four sacks and two interceptions. Monte Vista sits in second place in the conference only one game out of first. With McClendon running like beast mode and the defense coming together they are going to be a tough opponent for El Cajon Valley.

The Braves (2-5,0-1) have lost their last two games including a blowout loss to Mount Miguel Matadors. The Braves offense could not get it going last week. They only managed 16 yards in the air and only 12 yards on the ground in that game. The defense didn't fair much better. They gave up 232 yards on the ground and Shemar Greene ran over them with six total touchdowns.  The Braves will have to dig deep if they want to turn things around this week against Jahmon McClendon.
