Point Loma Pointers vs. Madison Warhawks - KUSI News - San Diego, CA

Point Loma Pointers 38, Madison Warhawks 22

Posted: Updated:

The Madison Warhawks (6-2) were once a top 3 football team in San Diego, but that time is no more after the Warhawks suffered their second straight defeat. This time around the Point Loma Pointers (5-3), led by QB Kyle Grady, who accounted for 252 yards in the air and 65 yards on the ground with 3 TD’s, beat Madison 38-22. Two way player JL Skinner helped Grady out by getting 131 receiving yards and catching 2 TD’s as well as getting a interception on defense.

This was a bit of a revenge game for Point Loma, who lost to Madison last year 53-7. The Pointers built a 31-14 lead by halftime and then hung on for the win despite a second half surge by Madison. The Warhawks were led junior Kenan Christon, who ran for 130 yards and scored two touchdowns. It doesn’t get easier for Madison as they go on the road this Friday to take on the Lincoln Hornets (7-1) in a non league match up. The Pointers will take a streaking Cathedral Catholic (4-4) who have won 2 straight games. Be sure to catch the Prep Pigskin Report on KUSI, as we’ll have highlights of this game and many more from around the county.

PREVIEW

The Madison Warhawks (6-1) are coming off their first loss of the season after being upset by an improving St. Augustine team 19-10. Madison will be looking to get back on the winning track as they pay a visit to Point Loma (4-3) for a Western League matchup. The Warhawks had been beating up on their previous opponents, before the loss to the Saints, having outscored them 251-74. In last years game between Madison and Point Loma, the Warhawks came away with a 53-7 victory.

The Point Loma Pointers will be looking to keep their momentum going after beating Mira Mesa in their last game 35-6. The Pointers only field about 35-40 kids, so a lot of them have to play both offense and defense for their team. Point Loma’s offense is led by QB Kevin Grady who has thrown for over 700 yards this season.

For Madison, their QB Mario Alves also likes to chuck it around the field and has a slew of Receivers that can take it to the house at anytime after making the catch. Alves also has a pair of dual threat athletes that can rush and catch the ball out of the backfield in Kenon Christon and Ke’ontae Springs respectively. If you can’t make it out tot he game, be sure to catch the highlights on the Prep Pigskin Report.
