Serra conquered Hoover in the Week 10 City League Matchup. The Conquistadors beat the Cardinals 42-6.
From the start it was the power of Serra’s offense that pushed past the Hoover defense. In the first quarter Timmy Zebroski got the scoring started with an 11-yard QB keeper.
The Cardinals were the next to score when Alex Sanchez Reyes booted in one of his two field goals. First one was from 31 yards out the next was from 30 yards out. Unfortunately, the two field goals were the only offense that Hoover could find.
Serra extended their lead when Jaylan Gallaway picked up a Hoover fumble and took it all the way back to the house.
In their very next possession, the Conquistadors found the end zone again. Timmy Zebroski hit Bryan Pratt for the 22 yard touchdown.
Before the half ended Zebroski tossed it 49 yards down the field to TJ Silvestri for Zebroski’s third touchdown of the half. It was 28-6 Serra at half.
The second half went just as the first did lots of Serra.
The final score was 42-6 Serra outlasted the Cardinals of Hoover High School.
Serra gets its first City League win of 2017 and Hoover drops to 0-3 in league play.
Serra closes their season against Clairemont while the Hoover Cardinals travel to Patrick Henry.
Preview: The Week 10 matchup between the Hoover Cardinals (1-7) and the Serra Conquistadors (3-5) features two programs fighting for their first City League wins of the season.
They are two of the younger teams in the county.
The Serra-Hoover matchup has become an underrated San Diego rivalry. They have seen each other every season over the last decade. It is a matchup that has favored Serra recently.
The last time Hoover was able to push past the “Q-Dawgs” was in 2014 where the Cardinals lost in the Division III CIF Final. One thing this matchup hasn’t been short of is offense. In the past three seasons, the teams have combined for a total of 139 points scored.
For Hoover, it has been recovery mode for the past 2 seasons. They have already won more times in 2017 than they did in 2016. Last year’s team had 15 seniors that graduated. The Cardinals have been recovering as a young team.
Just like Hoover, Serra is a young team learning on the fly.
The Conquistadors are led by Sophomore standout Timmy Zebroski who has already passed the 1,000-yard mark in passing yards. Zebroski has tossed 7 touchdowns and ran in for another 6.
Serra’s run game is led by Junior Myles Bryant who has rushed for 575 yards and found the end zone 6 times.
Senior Kieve Curry has led the defense with 83 tackles on the season.
