What is scarier than a Wolverine around Halloween? The Vista Panthers would probably say, “nothing.”
Tonight, the Westview Wolverines traveled to Vista and beat the Panthers 17-7.
The first quarter was a bit uneventful as neither of the teams seemed to be able to get any sort of offense going. However, in the second half, Westview came out firing as Beau Nelson threw a 71-yard rocket to his wide receiver, Connor Simpson.
The score that virtually won the game for the Wolverines was an extremely impressive 37-yard field goal kick by the Sophomore, Anthony Meader.
Vista made an attempt to get back into the game as they drove the ball downfield and ended up scoring on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Josh Davies to Dominique Hall.
Unfortunately for Vista, the play that put the nail in the coffin was when P.J San Austin of Westview, rushed for a 9-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the score 17-7.
With the win tonight, Westview put themselves in a good spot to make it to playoffs. Next week they take on the (3-6) Mt. Carmel Sundevils to close out their regular season.
The Prep Pigskin Report on KUSI will return next week at 10:30 p.m. as we wrap up, the far too quick, regular season.
PREVIEW: According to my calculations, it is already Week 10 of the Prep Pigskin Report, where we will be covering 33 games from across the county. One game to look out for is the Westview Wolverines taking on the Vista Panthers.
The visiting Wolverines are coming into Vista with an overall record of 4-4. However, Westview currently sits at third in the Palomar League standings with a record of 2-2.
Just last week, the Wolverines fell to the Rancho Bernardo Broncos with a final score of 31-21. The loss was a tough way to bounce back after a very impressive win in overtime the week before over the Poway Titans 37-36.
For the home team, the Vista Panthers have an overall record of 3-5 and they are 2-3 in the Palomar League.
Last Friday night, the Panthers traveled to Poway and defeated the Titans 21-7.
As far as this matchup goes, it should be an exciting one to watch as both teams have such similar records. Both teams rank highly in the Palomar League standings for points scored; Westview has put up 105 points and Vista 99 points.
A win for either team would help their case for a playoff push, so this should well be a competitive matchup.
