There’s always a game that is almost completely evenly-matched, but there always has to be a winner. This week, the Monte Vista Monarchs payed a visit to the Granite Hills Eagles and they didn’t go home with very happy faces.
The game began with Monte Vista starting strong with a 21 yard touchdown pass to Amir Conley thrown by Carlos Robershaw. Granite Hills struck back with a 13 yard touchdown rush by David Tyler Gonzalez. Shortly after the start of the second quarter, Keyvon Martin of the Eagles rushed for a 37 yard touchdown leaving the score at 13-7. When the Monarchs regained possession, they were forced to punt, but the Eagles’ punt returner dropped the ball, and Jevon Brooks of Monte Vista recovered the ball at the Eagles’ five yard line. Soon afterward, Monte Vista was in the lead after a 5 yard touchdown rush by Jahmon Mcclendon leaving the score at 14-13. However the first half closed with the Eagles’ quarterback Jacob Siegfried rushing for a 40 yard touchdown leaving the score at 20-14 at halftime.
The second half began with Granite Hills finding their way on the scoreboard again thanks to Siegfried rushing for a 3 yard touchdown. Eventually the Eagles regained possession which lead to Keyvon Martin rushing for a 37 yard touchdown leaving the score at 34-14. After the fourth quarter began, Monte Vista made it on the board after a 2 yard rush by Elshaddai Levi. After the Eagles regained possession the Eagles’ second string offense scored with Chris Hamilton rushing for a 6 yard touchdown. When the Monarchs got the ball back, they would score the last touchdown of the game with Jahmon Mcclendon rushing for a 7 yard touchdown. The final score of this game wound up being 41-28 in the Eagles’ favor. In fact after winning this game, Granite Hills is now at the top of the Grossmont Valley league.
It is now week 10, which is the final week before playoffs and this week the Red Jackets are headed to Granite Hills High School to watch the Monte Vista Monarchs pay a visit to the Granite Hills Eagles.
Last week the Eagles took home a win against Monte Vista rival, Mount Miguel with a final score of 31-13. Quarterback Jacob Siegfried has achieved 715 passing yards along with 791 rushing yards. As for the defensive side, sophomore defensive back Ethen Bishop has achieved 69 total tackles with 24 solo and 45 assists. The Eagles are currently 6-2.
Monte Vista hasn’t done too bad themselves. Last week, the Monarchs took home an impressive win by shutting out El Cajon Valley with a final score of 50-0. In fact Monte Vista has three consecutive wins so far. The Monarchs’ offense this season has been lead by junior quarterback Emmil Henderson. Monte Vista is currently 5-3.
