Rancho Bernardo Broncos 38 vs. Del Norte Nighthawks 0 - KUSI News - San Diego, CA

Rancho Bernardo Broncos 38, Del Norte Nighthawks 0

Posted: Updated:

Del Norte was celebrating senior night, with multiple dance, cheer and brand performances at every corner. They even ended halftime with a big bang, literally, with a fantastic surprise of fireworks. With all the big shows, Del Norte was hoping to celebrate a win as well. Unfortunately that would not be the case, thanks to Rancho Bernardo's kicker and offense.

Starting off the first quarter, Rancho Bernardo's Jack Gaylord would run in for a 19-yard touchdown. PAT is good. Score 7-0 Rancho Bernardo. Rancho Bernardo would then score another touchdown a few short minutes later. PAT is good and Broncos now up 14-0.

Going into the second quarter, Del Norte was hoping to get the same momentum as Rancho Bernardo, but Rancho Bernardo wasn't done with scoring touchdowns. Broncos quarterback Noah Morris connects with Malcomm Ross-Turner for a 40 yard touchdown catch. PAT is good yet again and the score is 28-0.

Halftime show came and went, and Nighthawks were looking to bounce back.

Third quarter just begun and Rancho Bernardo's Noah Morris would find Malcomm Ross-Turner yet again, this time for an insane 70 yard touchdown catch. PAT is good for another one. Score is now 35-0 with Broncos still leading the way. Nighthawks tried and tried with all their strength and flight to score, but Broncos defense would stop them every time, sack after sack after sack. Before the end of the third, Broncos kicker Matt Araiza was summoned to the field in hopes of gaining a field goal. He didn't go from the 20, 30 nor the 40. Instead, he went from the 53 yard line. The whole stadium was silent as the football left his cleats and flew through the air. Field goal WOULD BE GOOD! Broncos now up 38-0.

Fourth quarter was the time for the Nighthawks to work together and come up with a comeback plan. Unfortunately, the Broncos did in fact buck the Nighthawks.

Del Norte is now (1-8) and (0-5) in conference play, as Rancho Bernardo moves up to (4-5) with (4-1) in Palomar League conference play.

PREVIEW

Are you ready to get started for week 10 of PPR? Yes we are! Playoffs are just two games away and these last wins are crucial. One of the 33 featured games this week will be rivals Rancho Bernardo Broncos (3-5) taking on Del Norte Nighthawks (1-7) for a Palomar League conference match.

Going into conference play, Rancho Bernardo is 3-1, and is second in the Palomar League standings behind the undefeated Ramona Bulldogs. Del Norte has not won a single match out of their 4 conference games so far and has only won one of 8 games this season, resulting in a last place standing.

The last time Rancho Bernardo and Del Norte played each other was during the 2016, where the Broncos took the 47-7 victory.

Last season, the Broncos ended their season with an impressive 11-1 record and a open division semi-final run. This season has been rocky for the Broncos with a tough schedule as well as losing a lot of seniors, including 2016 Silver Pigskin finalist Milan Grice. Coach Tristan McCoy said that he is looking forward to the last two games in regards to how the returners will help the young rookies in leadership and mentality heading into the end of regular season as well as playoffs.

The Nighthawks have not had the best of luck. The team has been having a rough time finding momentum on ground plays as well as through the air when it comes to scoring. Nighthawks have only been able to score 70 points so far this season, with their only win of the season against Fallbrook with 27 of those 70 points.

Two players to watch out for on the Broncos side are returner and senior quarterback Christian Lewis and senior wide receiver Malcolm Ross-Turner. Lewis has 588 rushing yards and averages 117.6 per game and Ross-Turner has 326 receiving yards and three touchdowns. For the Nighthawks, there's junior corner back Mo Farah, who has 341 receiving yards, and senior running back Jonathon Capiello, who has 56 carries, 271 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Both teams have struggled with big numbers in rushing yards so Friday’s game will be one to watch.

Kickoff is set for 7pm at Del Norte.

Will the Nighthawks get their first league win and break their 6 game losing streak or will the Broncos buck their chances away?
