PREVIEW: The tenth time will be the charm, charm in high school football of course! Week 10 in the South Bay only keeps getting better. The San Ysidro Cougars come into this week with a much-anticipated win over the Castle Park Trojans. The win 35-5 win sets them at a 3-5 record, great way to start the first game counting towards league play. The Southwest SD Raiders who are recovering from a heartbreaking 14-7 loss to Montgomery will host the Cougars on their home field. The loss sets them at a 2-6 record for the season, however with victory so close to them winning league games can be attainable.

Throughout the season San Ysidro’s Alejandro Bonneau, Junior Bueno, Jazz Gill and Jeremiah Martinez have proven themselves to be essential to the Cougar roster. No matter the ups or downs of the season, these student athletes keep their determination and focus on the football field. Bonneau and Martinez go into the game with the confidence of getting points on the scoreboard. Both capitalized on touchdown opportunities last week. Bueno proved his ability as a quarterback and leader on the field. He completed passes that lead to first downs and touchdowns on the field. Passes that Gill received and contributed to the Cougar running game.

Southwest will look at Leonard Hoar, Daniel Belton, and Jovan Young to make their first league victory a reality. Leonard Hoar authored the opening touchdown in last week’s game against Montgomery. On his senior year of varsity high school football all is left on the field! The underclassmen will look at him as an example what it means to be a Southwest SD Raider.
