Week 10 comes to an end with the Valley Center Jaguars ending their senior night off on a high note with a 43-14 win over the Escondido Cougars. The Jaguars started off bad with a botch punt setting up the Cougars with great field position. Escondido’s Jake Frankfather would pound it in from 4 yards to give the Cougars an early lead 7-0. Valley center would answer back with a big drive capped off with a 1 yard run by Mateo Sinhoui extra point would be missed 7-6 Cougars. Valley Center would hold the Cougars to a three and out and quarterback Rikki Mazzetti would throw a 13 yard touchdown pass to Keith Vazquez to grab the lead for the first time on the night 12-7. After a big sack by the Jaguar defense Mazzetti would find Sinhoui for a 9 yard pass to pad the lead to 18-7 as the 2 point conversion would be no good. As the second half would start Valley Center would match down the field and would finish off the drive with another touchdown from Sinhoui from 3 yards out 24-7. After another turnover forced by the Jaguars defense who was stellar on the night Mateo would score again from 4 yards out and the route is on. Mazzetti would cap off a stellar night with 6 yard touchdown to Richard Benjamin.
On the night the jaguars defense had 2 interceptions and 3 sacks and at 8-1 they’ve all but secured the avocado league championship. They will finish off they’re regular season at Monte Vista. Meanwhile Escondido will return home in to face rival San Pasqual in their own senior night. PREVIEW: As the season starts to wind down our week 10 action takes the red jackets north to Valley Center high as the Jaguars play host to valley league rival Escondido Cougars.
The (4-4) Cougars are (1-) in league play and riding a two game winning streak with victories over Fallbrook and Del Norte with a combined score of 40 to 6. Escondido’s defense has been quite stubborn over the past few weeks coming up big in the win verse the Nighthawks with a safety and a interception returned for a touchdown by Shawn Moscowitz. Moscowitz also showed he can play offense in that game with a with a 51 yard touchdown catch. If the running game with Jake Franfather and Kevin Rodriguez can move the ball they will certainly be able to keep the Jaguar offense off the field.
Valley Center will be closing out it’s regular season home games this Friday while showcasing its senior class. While being (7-1) on the season and (3-0) in league the Jaguars will most definitely want to go out on top in front of they’re fans. Coming off an impressive 48-0 win over the Fallbrook Warriors in which junior quarterback Rikki Mazzetti only threw the ball 10 times. Of which 7 were completed for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns he was given a bunch of support his running backs accumulated for 240 yards on the ground and 5 touchdowns this balanced attack will surely look to continue to dominate.
