In the 10th week of Friday night football the Carlsbad Lancers (4-4) faced the El Camino Wildcats (4-4) at El Camino High School. Last week both teams walked away with some tough losses. With both teams evenly matched in performance and overall records, there was no telling where this game would go. With 22.5 seconds left in the 4th quarter the teams were tied up 24-24…that is until El Camino’s star running back, Chris Brown hopped the end zone completing a 1yd touchdown ending the game 31-24 Wildcats.
Tonight’s score really reflected the effort made on both team’s end. Each play mirrored the opponents. In the first quarter both teams took advantage of their Kicker’s and kicked a field goal. The scoreboard read 3-3. Jaden Casey pushes for more points and takes it upon himself to run a 3yd touchdown. The Wildcats are now up 10-3. As the second quarter approaches Chris Brown shows us what earned him the title “Best in the West” with a strong 52yd touchdown.
With Carlsbad beginning to feel angst, Luke Armstrong eased any anxiety his team may have felt by pulling in a 73yd and 5yd touchdown. Quarterback Troy Bloomquist’s followed Armstrong's streak with a 29yd touchdown pass to Noah Vella. At this point the board reads 24-24. With the beginning, middle and semi-end of the 4th quarter showing little action, with a mere 22.5 seconds left Chris Brown yet again validates his star status and pulls a much needed, hard earned 1yd touchdown.
The El Camino Wildcats just barely came out on top leaving week 10 with a 31-24 win. For full recaps on Friday night games tune into the Prep Pigskin Report every Friday at 10:30pm. PREVIEW: The Prep Pigskin Report welcomes you into the 10th week of San Diego high school football. We are more then halfway done with the 2017 regular season. This week we’ll see the El Camino Wildcats (4-4) take on the Carlsbad Lancers (4-4). The Wildcat’s will host the Lancers on their home turf this Friday at 7pm.
Last week the Wildcat’s were unable to put an end to the Mission Hills Grizzlies 7 game winning streak. Leaving the game with a difficult 56-20 loss, El Camino struggled to tie up their loose ends on offense. This week, we’re confident that the Wildcats learned a lesson or two and will apply their new found perspective into this weeks game. The Wildcats are led by senior running back Chris Brown. Brown has earned the titles of “the best in the west” and is currently ranked as the No. 1 overall running back in California.
Carlsbad also faced a tough loss last week against Torrey Pines (31-24). The Lancers have now lost 4 games in a row. With key senior’s, quarter back Troy Bloomquist, wide receiver Joe Fontenot and running back Joel Lazaro leading their offense, the Lancer’s do have potential to take a win home this week, but ultimately control their own destiny.
We look forward to seeing how these evenly matched teams will compete against one another. But only under the Friday night-lights will we know who comes out on top. Tune in to the Prep Pigskin Report Friday at 10:30pm to catch highlights, final scores and so much more. You can also follow LIVE game day updates and mentions on our Twitter/Instagram @RedJacketArmy.
