Olympian Eagles 46, Mater Dei Crusaders 14

It was Senior Night at Olympian High School and the Olympian Eagles (5-4) capitalized on early penalties and turnovers by the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders (4-5) to win their Metro-Mesa League matchup going away, 46-14. Olympian’s Isaiah Williams scored the first TD of the game by rushing eight yards to the house to put the Eagles up 10-0. The Eagles would score two more TD’s and lead 24-0 after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter Mater Dei showed some fight and scored their first touchdown when QB Cameron Smith connected on an 11 yard pass to Gustavo Carranza. That would make the score 24-7 Olympian. On the Eagles next possession, they would turn the ball over to the Crusaders, but Mater Dei could not take advantage of their luck and score.

Mater Dei would score a late TD in the fourth quarter, but by then it was to little to late for the Crusaders. Mater Dei will look to get back in the win column as they finish out the regular season with a home game against Otay Ranch. Olympian will go on the road and face-off against Eastlake. Two teams coming off losses last week, that sit at the .500 mark will face off this Friday in a crucial Metro-Mesa League match, up as the Mater Dei Crusaders (4-4) will travel to face off against the Olympian Eagles (4-4). Mater Dei has been trying to replace RB CJ Verdell, who graduated and rushed for more than 2,300 yards. RB Christian Paquian has filled in nicely, replacing not only Verdell, but also the injured RB Aiden Calvert who got hurt a couple of weeks ago.

The Olympian Eagles are led by QB Nico Mendoza and WR Isaiah Williams, who have combined for over 40 receptions and more than 500 yards this season. Mix in Running Backs Arnold Escano and Treyvion Davies and Olympian has a potent offensive attack that has averaged 38 points a game this season.
