Happy Thursday! It is going to be a beautiful day in most spots across the county. There will be partly cloudy skies for our coastal and inland areas with warm temperatures! Ahh, sounds nice! But, a chance for some thunderstorms still remains in the mountains and deserts.More>>

Thunderstorms continue to roar through our county this morning and will move further inland in the coming hours. We have seen pea sized hail, lots of lightning and rainfall in a large area of the North County. Waterspouts are also a possibility at the beaches today. This is all happening because of an upper level disturbance near San Clemente Island which is tapping into a little bit of monsoonal moisture from the Southeast, making for a lot of instability in the atmosphere!More>>

I have been asked several times why our water temperatures have been so warm these past few months. Typically our water runs close to the 70's in August, but this year we were seeing such temperatures in June. Even Central California has been experiencing unusually warm water temperatures for this time of year. A lot of viewer emails want to know if it has anything to do with El Nino... and the answer is no.More>>

Earlier this morning a gray whale was spotted in Mission Bay swimming between the channels. It eventually found its way out of the bay, but brought out a lot of spectators and whale watching boats while it was visiting. Right now, it is unclear whether the whale was lost or sick, but what we do know is this isn't the first time this has happened.More>>

Happy Tuesday! Look towards the skies again tonight. The Perseid meteor shower will be at its peak tonight. The good news? The "Supermoon" is a little less super (dimmer) tonight, so it will not pollute the darkness with light, allowing for better viewing.More>>

Temperatures won't be changing much this week, however, humidity is on the rise. Monsoonal moisture (something we have been talking a lot about these past two months) makes its comeback today. So far, relative humidity is still pretty low, but that will change by the afternoon and evening. The good news is if you don't like the humidity, it will be cut down by Wednesday.More>>

The second of three supermoons will happen this weekend and it's looking like this one will outshine the other two. The reason for the extra vibrancy is because the moon will become full during the same hour as it rotates closest to the Earth. That will make it shine about 30% brighter and appear 14% closer. The scientific term is "perigee moon." The last supermoon of the year will be on September 9th. If you miss that one you'll have to wait until January 20th, 2015.More>>

Last weekend, we had a very rare weather occurrence at the beaches: July thunderstorms touched down killing one swimmer and injuring 13 others. This weather has been perfect for all types of outdoor activities. A personal favorite is hiking, but with the warm weather I've been carrying around a lot more water with me. So, what is the right amount of water to take on a hike? Too much could weigh a hiker down, and too little can be extremely dangerous.More>>

Protect your skin today! The UV Index is as high as it can be at an 11+. That means it will only take 10 minutes to burn unprotected skin. So, if you have it, wear that SPF 30+ and keep re-applying throughout the day. Every two hours is the recommendation from the EPA. More>>

It's Comic-con Eve and lines of people have already formed at the convention center! If you are planning your costume or regular human attire for tomorrow, count on it being warm by 10am! I will be tweeting like crazy tomorrow, so if you'd like to check in on some Comic-Con action you can follow me @LeslieLopezKUSI. Today is already spectacular. There are many spots right now in the county getting rained on! For the most part, it is light sprinkles and not much more although we need it. July around here is known as 'monsoon season', so this event isn't a rarity. The high-pressure system scooping this subtropical moisture and carrying it to us is very large - larger than what we saw over Fourth of July weekend.More>>
