Daily Blog, 6/29/09: Coleman's Comments
June 29th... The U.S. House of Representatives passed the "Cap and Trade" energy tax-global warming bill on Friday. As a Journalist I try to not get into political discussion and remain non--partisan, but as a scientist who knows the bill is based on a myth about carbon dioxide being a significant greenhouse gas, I am concerned (but not surprised) by this legislation. The entire issue has become a political issue with the "ruling class" and the science is an unimportant detail to them. So with the Democrats in control it was somewhat certain this legislation would pass and it probably will become law.
I will not participate in the political debate about the economic consequences, etc. All I have to say is that for those thousands of scientists who know there is no significant man-made global warming now, has not been any in the past and there is no reason to expect any in the future, this is a sad a frustrating day.
I will continue to fight on the scientific level to try to educate open-minded people who are not so politically aligned they cannot consider the scientific arguments in reaching a conclusion on the issue.
Life is good. But our scientific base has just hit a new low. Since our entire standard of living, life-style, day to day existence is based on science, it is no small matter to ignore science.
Good luck to all of us.
