1 dead, 2 critically injured after possible DUI-related crash on S. Melrose Dr. in Vista

VISTA (KUSI) — A 24-year-old man is in police custody Saturday for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after he crashed his vehicle into two joggers in Vista, killing one and seriously injuring the other.

The driver lost control of his vehicle, rolled the vehicle over, struck the two victims  and crashed into a light pole on South Melrose Dr. in Vista. 

Around 6:30 p.m., San Diego Sheriff’s and Vista fire responded to a crash on South Melrose Drive just north of Sycamore Avenue.

One of the victims, a 40-year-old man, died at the scene and a 34-year- old woman was taken to Palomar Medical Center with serious injuries.

After the driver was freed from his vehicle, he also was transported to Palomar Medical Center with serious injuries.

A SIGALERT was issued for the area but the roads are now open.
