10/30/18 Girls Volleyball: El Camino 3, Mater Dei 2

It took every once of energy and emotion, but El Camino advanced to the Division III Championship, beating Mater Dei Catholic 3-2, on Tuesday night.

It is going to go down as an odds on favorite for volleyball match of the year; for almost 2 hours, the 2nd-seeded Lady Wildcats and the 3rd-seeded Lady Crusaders battled it out for an opportunity at the D-3 title. They took every set to its limit, leaving it all on the court. Combine that with a very loud crowd, and you had a match for the ages.

In the end, El Camino outlasted the mighty Crusaders with freshman sensation Sydney Amiatu leading all players with 32 kills to go with her 21 digs. Teammate Ilihia Huddleston added 19 kills, while fellow team captain Marvel Kobishigawa finished with 6 kills. Cameron Caimpon finished with a game-high 40 assists for the Lady Wildcats.

Leslie Massaway and Serina Cannon led Mater Dei Catholic in scoring with a combined, 26 kills.

El Camino will face the defending state champions Maranatha Christian on Saturday for the Division 3 Championship.
