11/10/18 Boy’s H2O Polo: Cathedral 11, Bishop’s 7

Cathedral Catholic got back to the top of the Boys Water Polo mountain on Saturday, winning the CIFSDS Open Division Championship. The Dons beat The Bishop’s School, 11-7, in front of a sold out crowd at Coggan Pool.

Senior Team Captain Tommy Gruwell led Cathedral Catholic with a hat-trick, to go along with his terrific defense. Junior, Jake Howerton also had 3 goals for the Dons.

Cathedral Catholic wins its 1st Open Division Title since 2015, when they beat Coronado. The Dons lost in the quarterfinals last year, and lost to Vista in overtime in 2016.

The game was closer than what the final score indicates. The Dons scored on couple of goals into an empty net in the last few seconds, as the Knights went in offensive mode. Bishop’s got a team-high, 3 goals, from Jack Martin. Ford Eldredge added 2 goals for the Knights.

Cathedral Catholic will play either Loyola or Oaks Christian in the CIF State So Cal regional Playoffs on Friday. Bishop’s will face the loser of the Loyola-Oaks Christian game on Friday.
