16-year-old booked into Juvenile Hall for suspected murder
OCEANSIDE (CNS) – A 16-year-old boy was booked into Juvenile Hall early Friday on suspicion of murder in the gang-related stabbing death of a 17-year- old boy not far from the Oceanside Pier, police said.
The suspect, whose name was withheld, is a documented gang member and accused of killing Jorge Basave last month, according to Oceanside police Lt. Aaron Doyle.
Basave was found stabbed in a parking lot at 250 Mission Ave. just before 8:45 p.m. June 20, Doyle said in a statement. Medics took the victim to a hospital to treat a stab wound to the chest. He died there a short time later.
Investigators learned two groups of people exchanged words that evening before the confrontation turned physical, Doyle said.
“An in-depth investigation conducted over the last month has revealed the identities of those individuals present during the altercation, in addition to the suspect whom is believed to have inflicted the fatal stab wound,” he said. The lieutenant declined to discuss anyone else involved with the case.
