17th Annual Boot Camp Challenge at MCRD San Diego

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – More than 1,500 runners will prove their mettle as they take on the Marine Corps Recruit Depot’s 17th Annual Boot Camp Challenge as part of San Diego’s Fleet Week.

The Boot Camp Challenge is a 3-mile run featuring obstacles used by Marine Corps recruits. During the race, more than 60 Marine drill instructors will encourage and motivate participants along the course which features more than 45 obstacles including tunnel crawls, log hurdles, wall climbs, cargo nets and push-up stations.

The race begins at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, with an opening ce

remony at 8:30 a.m. Participants will run in five-minute waves, starting with the elite division, then followed by individual men, individual women, three-person teams and five-person teams. All participants receive an event t-shirt and awards will be given to the top three participants in each category during the award ceremony at 11:30 a.m.
