17th threat since the fall found at Naval Base San Diego

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Another threat found written on Naval Base San Diego Tuesday prompted a sweep of the area.

A call tipped off officials of a threat written on a Port-a-Potty at Pier 7 of the naval base. Police dogs were called in to conduct a sweep, Navy officials said. The sweep has secured piers six, seven and eight, but officials ask to avoid the area for the time being.

Navy officials believe the threat is unfounded but must conduct a sweep every time a threat is found. This is the 17th threat prompting sweeps since last fall.

There is a 10, 000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest connected to the threats.

According to a navy official, 500 to 800 man hours are used for every hoax that must be investigated.
