“22 and You” walk for awareness ends at USS Midway in a surprising way

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Something special happened tonight at the foot of the USS Midway Museum: a former Marine and first responder completed a 625-mile walk to raise awarness about a serious issue affecting our nation’s military, police officers and firefighters.

John Preston, a firefighter and former Marine who lost a brother to suicide, walked the distance from San Francisco to San Diego with a backpack weighing 22 kilograms. The walk was to raise awareness for the high number of deaths by suicide among the military and first responder communities, and the 22 kilos represented the 22 suicides committed daily by veterans.

John Soderman has the story.
