242nd anniversary of Flag Day in San Diego

The 242nd anniversary of Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States of America, which occurred on June 14, 1777, by Congressional resolution.

To celebrate Flag Day this year, the County of San Diego, working with all the cities in the region, are announcing a new program to make it easier for residents to properly dispose of their U.S. flags.

The Boy Scouts are teaming up with the County and City libraries to have flag retirement boxes placed at 82 participating libraries.

These flag boxes will give residents the opportunity to dispose of their American Flag, the proper way. The boxes are then checked by the Boy Scouts, who will then deliver them to American Legion posts and US4Warriors, for proper flag retirement ceremonies in accordance to U.S. Flag Code.
