SYSD Governing Board Vice President encourages overcoming obstacles

SAN YSIDRO –  San Ysidro Governing Board Vice President Gurmilan recently went skydiving from 13,000 feet at Brown Field Municipal Airport.

The U.S. Army Southern California Recruiting Battalion along with the U.S. Army’s Elite Golden Knights Tandem Team conducted a Tandem Skydiving Camp for the Army’s most influential Community Partners that reside in the Southern California area.

Mr. Gurmilan, who uses a wheelchair due to a surfing accident, decided that this was an excellent way to bring attention to the many challenges that some San
Ysidro kids face.

He is a firm believer that you can overcome obstacles and reach goals that you think may be out of reach. “It was an honor to represent the students of the San Ysidro School District, said Gurmilan. “Anything can be accomplished with heart, focus and a desire to attain new heights! It was a privilege to jump with the U.S. Army Golden Knights.”

The Southern California Recruiting Battalion conducted the skydiving camp with the world-famous United States Army’s Golden Knights Tandem Team along with a select number of active community partners that learned what the Army has to offer in their own communities to include education, travel, service-to-country, community support, and community involvement.
