4/4/19 Softball: Vista 2, Academy of Our Lady of Peace 1

The Vista Lady Panthers got a walk-off squeeze bunt in the 7th inning, beating Academy of Our Lady of Peace, 2-1, on Thursday afternoon.

The Panthers took the early lead in the 3rd inning, when Emily Rodriguez hit a fly ball to left-center field that went underneath the fence. Neither umpire had a good angle on the ball, therefore calling it a home run.

The Pilots would tie it up in the top of the 7th inning when Malone Daugherty singled in Isabella Riggs, who had gotten on base on a single earlier in the inning. The Panthers would go down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 7th inning to send it to extra innings.

OLP would get 2 runners on in the top of the 8th, but Montgomery struck out the last 2 batters to get out of it.

In the bottom of the 8th, Gigi Gutierrez tripled with 2 outs and scored when Keilani Chavez laid down a perfect bunt that OLP wasn’t able to handle.

Lady Panthers pitcher, Jordan Montgomery, went all 8 innings for Vista. She allowed just 4 hits, 1 walk, while striking out 6 Pilots.

Vista goes to, 5-8 on the year with Santa Fe Christian on deck for Friday afternoon. Academy of Our Lady of Peace goes to 2-10 on the season. They will host Brawley on Saturday.
