SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The race for the 50th Congressional District in San Diego is one of the most contentious and expensive political battles in the nation.

The seat was vacated by Duncan D. Hunter who resigned after pleading guilty to charges of campaign finance violations.

Candidates Brian Jones (R), Darrell Issa (R), Carl Demaio (R), Ammar Campa-Najjar (D) and two other candidates squared off in a face-to-face debate in Mission Valley.

The candidates gave measured responses to a variety of questions, about housing affordability, taxes, homelessness, SANDAG and more.
