53rd Congressional District candidates participate in community forum

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The California Primary is just a few months away and that means political candidates are busy making the rounds. One race to watch the contest in the 53rd Congressional District.

This is the seat being vacated by Democrat Susan Davis who is retiring after 20 years in congress. And it looks as there is no shortage of candidates who want to step into her shoes.

Three of the 11 candidates took part in a lunchtime forum held by a small business group, the Mexican American Business & Professional Association.

The seat in the 53rd District is one of two open congressional seats in the San Diego region.

Georgette Gomez was endorsed last month by the California Democratic Party
