53rd District Candidate Sara Jacobs on Medicare for all, AB 5 and Green New Deal

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Super Tuesday is just days away, and one of the most packed races is the 53rd Congressional District.

After 19 years, Democratic Congresswoman Susan Davis is stepping down. Sixteen candidates are running for the seat including Democrats Sara Jacobs, Georgette Gomez and Janessa Goldbeck, and Republican Chris Stoddard.

A poll by the San Diego Union Tribune shows Sara Jacobs has a wide lead. Jacobs helped write Hillary Clinton’s campaign policy on pandemic preparedness during the Zika outbreak in 2016.

The district encompasses La Mesa, Lemon Grove, parts of El Cajon and Chula Vista and central San Diego neighborhoods such as Hillcrest, Grantville and North Park.

Democratic Candidate Sara Jacobs was in studio to talk about the specifics of her campaign and her plans for the district if elected.

Jacobs said she supports Medicare for all and the Green New Deal. When asked about California’s gig-worker bill AB 5, Jacobs explained that she wouldn’t have to vote on AB 5, but that she would vote in favor of a similar bill called the Pro Act.
