70-year-old man drowns at Carlsbad State Beach

CARLSBAD (KUSI) — A 70-year-old male was pronounced dead around 3 p.m. Thursday at Carlsbad State Beach after failed resuscitation efforts. The victim was pulled from the water but could not be revived.

The man was seen entering the water while having no trouble swimming, according to Carlsbad Lifeguard Chief Mike Davis. An off-duty Anaheim police officer noticed the man floating in the water and pulled him out. He immediately attempted to revive him with CPR but could not save him.

No one witnessed the reason he drowned. Lifeguards are still investigating what caused the mans sudden drowning.
