80 year-old woman beaten in Balboa Park
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A woman in her 80s was hospitalized Friday after being beaten by a man in the Balboa Park area, police said.
A passerby came across the injured woman, who was expected to survive, around 11:20 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police Officer Gerry Waclawek. The attack was believed to have occurred about 20 minutes earlier, he said.
The woman was out late feeding stray cats at the time of the attack, KGTV 10 News reported.
Paramedics took her to Scripps Mercy Hospital, Waclawek said.
Police described the assailant as a black man in his 30s, around 5 feet 11, last seen wearing a white shirt, gray sweat pants or shorts, and a light blue or gray baseball cap.
The woman was not robbed, and the motive for the attack was not immediately clear.
