Abandoned baby found in car in Point Loma

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Officers responding to a possible break-in at a tattoo shop in the Point Loma/Ocean Beach area found an abandoned baby Wednesday in a vehicle parked outside the business and detained a woman hours later, police said.

Officers went to investigate the possible break-in at OB Tattoo and Body Piercing at 1509 Rosecrans Street around 5:10 a.m., according to San Diego police Sgt. Robin Rose.

A man ran from officers at the scene and got away, she said, adding that was when officers discovered the baby.

Just before 8 a.m., a woman was pulled over at Camino Del Rio West and Sports Arena Boulevard while driving the vehicle where the baby was discovered, SDPD Detective Gary Hassen said.

She was detained for questioning, according to the detective, who could not immediately say how or when the woman got into the vehicle.
