Abandoned boat washes ashore with $1.2M worth of marijuana

SAN CLEMENTE (KUSI) — An abandoned boat containing $1.2 million-worth of marijuana was discovered in San Clemente Monday, U.S. Border Patrol agents announced Wednesday.

California State Park rangers called Border Patrol agents to Calafia State Park around 3 p.m. Monday after discovering the  25-foot Bayliner moving in to shore.

During the search, agents uncovered 82 cellophane-wrapped bundles of marijuana totaling 2,400 pounds. No people were aboard the watercraft or in the surrounding area, agents said.

It is unclear what caused the boat to be abandoned and wash ashore.
