Agents find 1,600 pounds of marijuana on unoccupied boat

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Customs and Border Protection agents found approximately 1,600 pounds of marijuana in an unoccupied boat moored near Harbor Island Wednesday.

The agents boarded the 33-foot boat Monday night, they summoned the Border Patrol’s drug-sniffing dogs, which alerted them to numerous bales of marijuana in the ship’s cabin, according to CBP public affairs.

Agents towed the boat to shore where they began a more thorough investigation in which they discovered 1,600 pounds of pot with an estimated street value of $960,000.

The boat and drugs were seized, but no arrests were made as agents were not able to determine who owned the vessel.
