Airport expansion project halfway home

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The $1 billion expansion project at Terminal 2 of
Lindbergh Field has reached the halfway point, the San Diego County Regional
Airport Authority announced Thursday.

The foundation is in place for the extension of the building, and the
exterior skin and glass is being installed, said Katie Jones of the SDCRAA. She
said the outside of the new section will match the existing Terminal 2.

A dual-level roadway that will separate traffic for arrivals and
departures is being worked on in sections, she said.

On the inside, framing is going up for the security checkpoint and
concession areas, according to Jones. The expanded area will include 10 new
gates, plus additional shopping and dining options.

Opening remains on schedule for August 2013.
