Alarm Clock Pep Rally Game: Grossmont Foothillers 41, Sweetwater Red Devils 8

The Chick-Fil-A Alarm Clock Pep Rally game in Week Four had Grossmont getting the big 41-8 win over Sweetwater, but the night was about more than just football.

Ryan Wilcox’s battle with cancer inspired not only the Grossmont community but even attracted national attention when he was paid a visit by his favorite Avenger actors in Robert Downy Jr. Chris Evans and Gwyneth Paltrow. Ryan was named the honorary captain for the first home game of the season. Unfortunately he lost his battle with cancer on September 3rd. His sister Bailey filling in for Ryan and participating the the coin flip. The two sides also held a moment of silence in Ryan’s honor.

As for the game, Grossmont backed up into their end zone and punting when Sweetwater’s defense swarmed causing the safety. Things would get rough for Red Devils after that. The Foothillers James Mackey with three touchdown runs. Shevell Sterling accounted for two more including a nice 55 yard scamper and score. Quarter back Hunter Gaines was also able to find Zak Ferris for the score in the 1st quarter.

Sweetwater’s Marty Sesma put together a good night of running on the ground, but they were never able to put the breaks on the Grossmont offense.

The Chick-Fil-A Alarm Clock Pep Rally game in Week Four brings us to Grossmont High School. The 2-0 Foothillers will be hosting Sweetwater in their first home game of the season.

Senior quarterback Hunter Gaines is coming off a huge game in which he threw for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns. Gaines has leaned on Dominique Guevara and Jailen Bailey as both receivers have come up big for the Foothillers in their first two games. Junior running back Shevell Sterling has also seen some success racking up over 200 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns in the first two games. The Foothillers have struggled to open the game strong and will push to do that this week.

The Sweetwater Red Devils are still in search of their first win of the season after dropping to University City and Olympian respectively. Don’t expect the Red Devils to throw a lot, senior quarterback Manny Salazar has only attempted 8 tosses this season. He has one touchdown and one interception. The Devils will attack on the ground with Marty Sesma and Francisco Velazquez. Sesma has two touchdowns this season and has rushed for close to 200 yards.

Highlights of the game can be seen on the Prep Pigskin Report at 10:30pm. The fun all starts on the Alarm Clock Pep Rally at 6am on Good Morning San Diego.
