Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls for abolishing the electoral college

On Saturday, the Democrat Party’s rising Socialist running to represent New York’s 14th District added another thing to her list of thing’s she wants to abolish if elected. Shortly after Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court by the Senate, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for the electoral college to be abolished.

Ocasio-Cortez was responding to GQ magazine’s Julia Ioffe, who wrote an article citing two United States Presidents who lost the popular vote, won the Presidency, and placed a total of four Justices on the Supreme Court. She was referring to President George W. Bush and President Trump.

Ocasio-Cortez’s claim that the electoral college is “a shadow of slavery’s power” is unsubstantiated, as the electoral college has nothing to do with slavery.

A growing number of Democrats have called for the electoral college to be abolished or replaced with another system, a popular vote. Most notably in 2017, Hillary Clinton said the electoral college process was outdated.
