All-clear at East County high school after gun scare
SPRING VALLEY (CNS) – An East County secondary school went into lockdown mode for about an hour Wednesday after a teacher overheard a student conversation suggesting that a gun was on campus — comments that turned out to be unfounded.
The suspicious statements at Monte Vista High in Spring Valley were reported shortly before 10:30 a.m., sheriff's Lt. James Bovet said.
Administrators at the Sweetwater Springs Boulevard school told investigators several students were heard discussing a gun that was supposedly present underneath some shrubbery on the campus, according to Bovet.
Deputies determined that there was no truth to the statements, and the lockdown was lifted about 11:30 a.m., the lieutenant said.
