Alleged DUI driver in custody following City Heights accident that severed arm of another driver
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A man who allegedly ran a stoplight at a City Heights intersection while drunk, causing a collision that left another motorist with a severed arm, was behind bars Thursday and facing a felony DUI charge.
Douglas Millsap, 50, was headed north on 54th Street when his Nissan pickup truck broadsided an eastbound Toyota Prius at University Avenue shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego police.
The impact caused the car to overturn and slide across the roadway, SDPD Officer Frank Cali said.
Medics took the 56-year-old driver of the Prius to a trauma center in serious condition. He was likely to lose his left arm, authorities said.
Millsap was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being booked into San Diego Central Jail. He was being held on $100,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
