Amazon opens new San Diego hub office, plans to add 300 jobs

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Amazon is spreading its wings in San Diego. The online retailer is expanding its San Diego office with the addition of 300 new jobs.

At the formal grand opening of Amazon’s new tech hub in San Diego’s UTC area, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and State Assemblymember Todd Gloria hailed Amazon’s decision to make San Diego one of the company’s 17 high tech hubs outside of Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle.

In just under two years, Amazon’s workforce in San Diego has grown from just five employees to about 200. That number is about to increase by more than two fold, with the addition of 300 more jobs.

Nate Wiger, who is the General Manager of the San Diego office said the jobs will be technology positions for engineers and researchers who can develop software for Amazon products and services such as AmazonFresh, Prime Now and Amazon Web Services.
