Amber Alert canceled, Suspect remains at large
LOS ANGELES (KUSI) — Monday 7:00 a.m. — An Amber Alert issued about 9:30 p.m. Monday in Los Angeles was canceled when the car belonging to the 18-month-old boy’s father was found.
Luis Avalos, the boy’s father, remains at large but the boy and his 22-year-old mother, Sabrina Sanchez were found safe. The Amber Alert was canceled at 10:40 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.
The Amber Alert was issued for Los Angeles, Ventura, Riverside, Orange, San Diego and San Bernardino counties after Sanchez’ mother witnessed Avalos punch and then force her daughter into his car, where their son was still inside, and take off, according to LAPD Officer Mike Lopez.
At around 1 p.m. Monday, Sanchez’ mother heard a scream. When she looked outside, she saw her daughter throw down her cell phone and purse and ran back to Avalos’ car in attempt to get her son, Lopez said.

Police then called Avalos with Sanchez’ cell phone. Avalos answered the phone and officers heard Sanchez screaming and struggling in the background, according to Lopez. Police told Avalos they needed to speak with Sanchez and, over speaker phone, asked Sanchez three times if she was okay. On the third attempt, she answered, “I’m fine.” The call was then ended. Police attempted several more times to contact Avalos but failed.
Luis Avalos is 140 pounds, 5 feet 6 inches with a bald head, brown eyes and three distinguishing tattoos: a tattoo of “Sabrina” on his left cheek, a tattoo of red lips on his right neck and a tattoo of a Catholic Rosary around his neck.
