American Cancer Society’s Magic of Hope Gala

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The American Cancer Society’s Magic of Hope Gala will celebrate cancer survivor and famous rock drummer Rikki Rockett.

The famed drummer in the multi-platinum rock band ‘Poison’ is living proof of that, having survived late stage HPV throat cancer thanks to a clinical trial and pioneering UC San Diego Health Moores Cancer Center oncologist, Dr. Ezra Cohen.

Rockett is a passionate advocate about immunotherapy and has been outspoken in his praise of the emerging medical treatment. “My hope going forward is that by talking to other cancer patients, I might be able to lessen their pain and suffering,” Rockett said. “I know from experience that chemotherapy and radiation are not fun. If I can help anyone else, it would help give meaning to what I went through.”

Money raised at “Magic of Hope” on November 16h in La Jolla will be directed to funding new cancer research projects and creating a world free from cancer through the mission of the American Cancer Society.
